Max Stirner is the pseudonym of the German philosopher, one of the forerunners of nihilism, existentialism and anarchism Johann Kaspar Schmidt, famous mostly for his work The Ego and Its Own (Der Einzige und sein Eigentum).

In his provocative work, first published in Leipzig in 1845, Stirner states his controversial thoughts on political and philosophical argument, the influence of religion on the modern society, individual autonomy, and writes of empirical 'ego', the force of every human action in the world.
