Good read
It starts out a bit slow, but then picks up and become interested.
Wonderful Story!!
This was an entertaining story with wonderful characters! It's told in dual POV and I absolutely loved that! Both Beau and Brooke get to tell their perspectives of the story and it really helped build the story and fall in love with the characters. Brooke was a good strong character. She was dealt a bad hand and was trying to get away from it all and ends up getting lost on a mountain in a storm and gets hypothermia to boot. Luckily, there's a cabin with a burning fire nearby. The grump who lives in the cabin has been hiding away and doesn't really want a surprise roomy for a storm that is going to last days.
The storm doesn't last for too much time, but the romance still builds like a slow burn rather than an insta-love type. The chemistry between Brooke and Beau was great from the get go! I loved the give and take in the relationship and their banter! There were a few things that about Beau and his cabin that seemed a little far reaching, but it didn't detract from the story.
There is swearing, steam, talk of hunting animals (the guy lives in a cabin on a mountain, food delivery is not a thing there), talk on intimate partner violence, and murder. It's not suspenseful, but there is angst and it works with the story and the characters.
The narrators were wonderful! I enjoyed listening to each of them, they both did a good job with differentiating voices of characters and with the male voices and female voices. It is dual narrated with the male narrator voicing the entire chapters/sections from Beau and the female narrating all the female POV ones. I definitely liked the male voice over the female one, mostly because he has this pleasant deep voice that I think really fits the character. The female narrator did a good job, too. She was softer spoken and that fit with Brooke's character quite well. I listened at 1.2x speed.
It was okay, a little long
It took me a while to actually finish reading this somewhat grumpy reclusive lumberjack who happened to be a secret billionaire with deep secrets and heartaches in his past who inadvertently rescued and took in an woman with secrets of her own during an snowstorm up in the mountains. Normally I would enjoy this author’s work but for some reason, this particular story kinda dragged even though the steamy sexual encounters between Beau and Brooke was still hot. Despite of the story moving at a very slow pace, both characters had heartbreaking and unsettling experiences of their own while trying to come terms with their troubled pasts that eventually got them together in the end. I wanted to say that I liked it but not really.
